SUSSEX FIRE  DEPARTMENT  AUXILIARY

This part of the web site is dedicated to our unsung heroes

who without their support and dedication and their hard

work , the Sussex Fire Department would find it difficult to

complete their mission to the community.

The Sussex Fire Department Auxiliary

A Salute to the Ladies

Here they come all dressed in blue They keep a perfect line, Their uniforms are Bright and new just see their badges shine.

They strut their stuff and well they might These firemen on parade But did you ever stop to think How much the ladies aid?

Who wakes the slumbering husband When the bell begins to ring? Who helps him find his breeches and every other thing.

Who keeps the kids from yelling When pop can’t find his boots? Who calms the whole darn family As on the whistle toots?

Who washes all your dirty clothes, Of soot and smoke and grime? Who keeps your dinner piping hot, Regardless of the time?

Who does all these things without reward? Who makes such sacrifice? Why every fireman knows darn well, It is the fireman’s wife.

Who goes on all the fishing trips? Who banquets twice a year? Who fills himself with oyster stews? Who drinks up all the beer?

Who gets the thrill of action? The glory and the fame? Who gets the recreation, At the twilight baseball game?

Who wears the snappy uniforms? Who marches on parade? Who gets the crowds applause and cheers? Who wears the silver braid?

Who makes the headlines in the press? Now you can bet your life, That every fireman knows darn well, It ain’t the fireman’s wife.

For her no fame or glory, No loud applause, no cheers; But she helps make darn good firemen Of all the volunteers.

So let’s give the firemen credit For all the work they do; But don’t forget the FIREMAN’S WIFE Deserves some credit too.
